Senator David Shafer is the Honorary Chairman of the Republican Leadership Fund.
Shafer is serving his fourth term in the State Senate. He serves as Chairman of the Senate
Regulated Industries and Public Utilities Committee. He is also a member of the Senate Committee
on Assignments appointed by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle. Shafer formerly served as
Administration Floor Leader for Governor Sonny Perdue and as Chairman of the Senate Science
and Technology Committee.
Shafer has long been active in Republican politics. He served as Executive Director
of the Georgia Republican Party
in the early 1990s and as campaign manager for Guy Millner in his first campaign
for Governor in 1994. Shafer was himself the Republican nominee for Secretary of
State in the 1996. He served as the 1999 Chairman of the
Georgia Republican Foundation, the major donor group for the Georgia Republican Party.
Shafer is the Honorary Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Georgia, a
group promoting the principles of individual liberty, free markets and limited government
within the Republican Party. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the
Live Oak Republicans. He is a member of The 159 Group.
Shafer represents parts of Fulton and Gwinnett Counties. He lives in Duluth with his wife and two children.
